HJC RPHA 1 MOTORCYCLE HELMET REVIEW

The new RPHA 1 from the Korean brand HJC, is a direct replacement to the RHPA 11, and has numerous new features and improvements over the old generation. For starters, it has been tested against new European ECE22.06 standards and is FIM certified, for the ultimate peace of mind and protection. The helmet looks sporty and aggressive and comes in many decals as well as flat black and white.

HJC RPHA 1 shell, sizes and fitting

The RPHA 1 is made from PIM+ shell (Premium Integrated Matrix+) which incorporates a 6 layer design over its predecessor’s 5. The layers are made from carbon, carbon fibreglass, and Amarid, which help the helmet to meet the ECE22.06 standards.

The helmet itself has a moisture-wicking and quick-drying inner liner, which is available in 4 sizes as well as the helmet itself being available in 7. The range of sizes ensures a snug, comfortable fit for riders of any size. The inner shell is comprised of two layers of different densities, which makes the helmet less susceptible to a wider range of impacts, keeping you safer on the road and on the track.

Design and compatibility

The design lends itself to a track or sport setting, however that doesn’t mean that sacrifices have been made on comfort. The helmet has a range of sizes to help fit any rider, but the helmet also has a wide goggle and sunglasses space, which makes it more comfortable for riders who need glasses too.

The inner pads are removable and washable, so your helmet can always be kept fresh and clean and are also antibacterial. The helmet also has inbuilt Bluetooth functionality, with either the HJC Smart 10B or 20B system being included.

HJC RPHA 1 visor and pinlock lens

The visor has been greatly updated over the last generation, and it has a spring mechanism to keep it secure to the helmet and to close in the top. The spring mechanism helps the RPHA 1 maintain a low profile, keeping the visor close to the shell and it helps to maintain the helmets wind and noise reduction.

HJC has also worked to develop the visor itself, and the helmet is delivered with HJC’s own HJ-35 visor, which is a great improvement over the last generation as it has up to 99% UV protection and anti-scratching. The new visor also has a double-locking system which helps to reduce the risk of the visor being both accidentally opened or coming open by itself.

The visor can also be both mounted and removed without the need for tools, which is great in the even that it needs replacing. The helmet is also shipped with a Pinlock EVO 120 lens, and the Pinlock lens is anti-fog to guarantee a clear view at all times. The pins to mount the EVO 120 lens are placed further back than before, which means that the helmet has an increased field of view and even more of the area is kept fog free.

Ventilation

HJC are known for their great ventilation and the RPHA 1 is no exception. The RPHA 1 has incredible ventilation, including a closable vent on the front and numerous intakes on the top of the helmet which allows for great airflow to the head. All vents and movable pieces are glove-friendly and easy-to-operate. The helmet has an exhaust vent on the back to take hot air out of the helmet.

HJC RPHA 1 aerodynamics and testing

The RPHA 1 has been wind tunnel tested, which provides much better results over a cheaper, simulation based testing. The helmets looks are functional too, and the helmet has great aerodynamics as a result of the rigorous testing.

The design is slimmer than the previous counterpart and the helmet cuts through the air better as a direct result. The helmet has a lower lift, which can cause the front of the helmet to lift at higher speeds, which means even more improved comfort and aerodynamics too.

HJC RPHA 1 price

Overall, The HJC RPHA 1 is a great looking helmet with the function to match. We sell the HJC RPHA 1 from £649.99 to £799.99 depending on style and it comes in a huge range of designs. The helmet has been tested against the new, stricter standards and is an incredibly safe option, with some of the best comfort factors on the market, such as the adjustable ventilation and the multitude of pad sizes. The helmet would be best for a sports bike or even on track, and the helmet would very much look at home there too.
